The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme aimed at encouraging young people to develop new ideas, research and technology for the country’s energy sector. More than Rs1 billion has been allocated to support the initiative.
The programme will bring together young innovators, researchers, universities, startups, industry representatives and energy experts through a dedicated digital platform called the Innovation Hub. The platform will provide an opportunity for participants to present ideas and work on practical solutions to Pakistan’s power-sector challenges.
Under the programme, more than Rs1 billion will be available over the next three years for successful projects. Young participants whose ideas are selected will be eligible to receive financial support of up to Rs500,000 to help develop their proposed solutions.
Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said Pakistan’s power sector needs not only greater efforts but also creative thinking, innovation and continuous research from young people. He described the initiative as more than just a competition, saying it would serve as a permanent national institutional framework for innovation in the power sector.
According to the minister, the programme will provide young participants with mentorship, technical guidance and practical support. The aim is to help transform promising research and innovative ideas into workable projects that can contribute to improving Pakistan’s energy system.
Through the Innovation Hub, students, researchers, startups and young professionals will be able to submit their ideas and participate in the programme. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for young talent while encouraging technology-based solutions to some of the country’s major energy challenges.
