Users of Meta-owned social media platforms Facebook and Instagram experienced widespread service disruptions on Sunday, with thousands reporting problems accessing the apps and websites in several regions.
According to outage-tracking platform Downdetector, more than 4,800 Facebook users in the United States had reported issues by 7:46 GMT, with nearly 63% saying they were unable to access the Facebook website. Meanwhile, over 2,800 Instagram users reported problems with the app by 8:18 GMT.
The number of outage reports also surged around 1:00 pm Pakistan time, indicating a sharp rise in complaints from users experiencing difficulties with Meta’s platforms. Many users reported being unable to log in, refresh their feeds, load content, or access messages normally.
The disruption follows a similar incident last month, when Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger experienced widespread outages across multiple regions, leaving thousands of users unable to use the platforms for several hours. During the latest disruption, many people turned to outage-tracking services and other social media platforms to confirm whether the issue was widespread.
Meta has not immediately provided detailed information about the cause of the outage. The company is expected to investigate the issue as users continue to report intermittent service disruptions.
