Tech Demo Turns Into Trouble as Remote-Controlled Car Hits Police Van in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A video showing a remotely operated car crashing into a police van in Islamabad has gone viral on social media, after the vehicle reportedly lost control due to an internet connection failure.

The incident took place at D-Chowk, where journalist Muhammad Aalijah was seated in the front passenger seat while demonstrating the vehicle’s remote-control system. In the video, Aalijah can be seen explaining the car’s features as it moves forward under remote operation.

During the demonstration, the steering system suddenly stopped responding properly and the car moved out of control. Aalijah attempted to stop the vehicle by using the handbrake, but the car eventually collided with a police van parked nearby.

Aalijah later explained that the vehicle was being operated remotely through an internet connection. According to him, a sudden disruption in the connection caused the system to malfunction and resulted in the crash.

He said the purpose of the video was not to criticise or target the young technology enthusiast behind the project, but to highlight the importance of thoroughly testing new technology before using it in public areas.

Aalijah also warned that while the incident occurred in an area with relatively little traffic, a similar technical failure on a busy road could have much more serious consequences. The video has since attracted widespread attention online, with users sharing humorous reactions as well as discussing the potential of locally developed technology.
