Pakistani actress Yashma Gill has spoken out against the alleged assault of a pregnant woman in Gujranwala after reports that an ultrasound indicated she was expecting another daughter. Gill strongly condemned the violence and questioned the attitudes that lead women to be blamed or harmed because of the sex of their unborn child.Â
The incident was reported in Wapda Town, Gujranwala. According to the FIR and police reports, the woman, who was already a mother to a daughter, was allegedly assaulted after her family learned through an ultrasound that she was expecting another girl. Police have arrested her husband, while allegations involving other family members remain under investigation.
Gill also addressed the biological aspect of the issue, pointing out that a baby’s biological sex is determined by the sperm carrying either an X or Y chromosome from the father, while the mother’s egg contributes an X chromosome. She stressed that a woman should never be blamed or subjected to violence because of the sex of her child.
In her message, the actress called for greater emphasis on empathy, humanity, morality and respect from childhood. She said parents, schools, communities and society all have a role to play in preventing violence and challenging harmful attitudes toward women and girls.
The Gujranwala case has drawn public attention because the alleged violence was reportedly connected to the sex of the unborn child. Police are continuing their investigation, and the allegations remain subject to the legal process.
