Pakistan star batter Babar Azam has become the centre of attention on social media after a video surfaced showing an apparent heated moment involving a fan during the President’s Trophy Grade-I match in Islamabad.
Babar was representing Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) against State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) at the Diamond Cricket Ground on Wednesday, September 30. He was dismissed for 21 runs off 39 deliveries after being given out LBW to Afaq Afridi.
Following his dismissal, a number of spectators reportedly rushed towards Babar as he made his way from the field, with several attempting to take pictures and selfies with the Pakistan batter. Videos from the incident have since circulated widely on social media.
One circulating video appears to show Babar taking a fan’s mobile phone and throwing it away during the selfie attempt. The footage has sparked discussion online, although the exact circumstances surrounding the exchange and what led to Babar’s reaction are not independently clear from the video alone.
The incident came after another fan-related moment involving Babar during his recent return to domestic cricket. Last week in Abbottabad, a supporter entered the playing area and approached Babar for a selfie, with footage of that encounter also going viral on social media.
