ISLAMABAD: Authorities opened the spillways of Rawal Dam at 2:00pm on Tuesday after heavy and continuous rainfall caused the water level in the reservoir to rise significantly.
According to the Islamabad District Administration, the water level at Rawal Dam reached 1,751.90 feet, prompting officials to release water through the spillways to manage the increasing inflow and maintain the reservoir at a safe level.
Rescue 1122, Islamabad Police and other relevant departments have been placed on high alert during the water-release operation. Authorities have also directed concerned agencies to take all necessary safety measures and maintain close coordination to deal with any emergency.
Emergency and civic agencies are closely monitoring the situation around the dam and nearby areas. Officials said teams will continue to monitor water levels and the impact of increased water discharge throughout the operation.
The district administration has urged citizens to stay away from streams, drainage channels and low-lying areas, particularly those located near watercourses. Residents have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to areas that could be affected by the release of water.
