A major fire broke out at a factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone on Monday, triggering an emergency response from Rescue 1122, the fire brigade and other agencies. The blaze was classified as a third-degree fire because of its intensity.
Rescue 1122’s Central Command and Control Centre immediately dispatched firefighting and rescue teams, fire vehicles and ambulances to the site after receiving information about the incident. Firefighters began efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, all workers were safely evacuated from the factory and no casualties were reported. Three people were temporarily trapped inside the building and suffered from suffocation caused by thick smoke, but rescue teams managed to bring them out safely.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation also activated emergency arrangements at the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants after receiving a request from the fire brigade. Water tankers were sent to the location, while officials monitored the supply to ensure uninterrupted water was available for firefighting operations.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and further details are expected as authorities assess the situation.
