A major fire broke out at a K-Electric grid station in Karachi’s Baloch Colony early Tuesday morning, disrupting electricity supplies in several nearby areas. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the fire started at around 4am, after which emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the location.
Eight firefighting vehicles from Rescue 1122, along with Edhi ambulances, reached the site and began efforts to control the blaze. Residents said they heard a loud explosion before seeing large flames coming from the direction of the grid station. The fire reportedly spread quickly, prompting an extended firefighting operation.
Rescue officials said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after several hours, while cooling operations continued at the site to prevent any possibility of the fire reigniting.
During the operation, firefighters also requested a continuous water supply from nearby hydrants. The incident caused power disruptions in surrounding areas, creating difficulties for residents and businesses.
No casualties were reported in the initial information available. Authorities are expected to assess the grid station and determine the extent of the damage following the incident.
