Pakistan bounced back in impressive fashion to defeat the West Indies by eight wickets on the fourth day of the second and final Test at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday, leveling the two-match series 1-1.
After losing the opening Test by 90 runs, Pakistan produced a strong all-round performance in the second match. The West Indies resumed the day at 103-6 in their second innings but were bowled out for just 117 within the first half hour of play. That left Pakistan needing only 75 runs to secure victory.
Pakistan’s chase got off to a shaky start as openers Imam-ul-Haq and Azan Awais were dismissed early by Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. However, Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam remained calm and guided the visitors to victory with an unbeaten partnership. Babar finished the match in style by hitting spinner Jomel Warrican for two consecutive sixes.
The result helped Pakistan level the series 1-1, repeating their success from the 2021 tour of the Caribbean when they also lost the first Test before winning the second. That series was played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. The previous Test series between the two teams, held in Multan in January 2025, also ended in a 1-1 draw.
Abdullah Shafique was the standout performer of the match. Initially not included in Pakistan’s touring squad, he was called up last week as a replacement for the injured Shan Masood. Shafique made the most of the opportunity by scoring an unbeaten 160 in the first innings, which played a key role in Pakistan posting a commanding total of 387 and laid the foundation for the series-leveling victory.
