Dr Rahman, an associate professor in the Department of Community Medicine at NMCH, reportedly died after suffering a sudden medical emergency while working out at a gym in Guwahati, India.
According to sources, gym staff and fellow members immediately rushed to his aid and called for medical assistance. He was later taken to NMCH, where doctors attempted to resuscitate him but were unable to save his life.
Dr Rahman was a resident of Machkhowa in Guwahati and was known as a dedicated teacher and clinician. His colleagues said he was actively involved in teaching medical students and treating patients. Despite his demanding professional routine, he was reportedly very conscious of his fitness and regularly visited the gym.
Sources said he had no known illness or previous health complaints. However, hospital authorities and police said the exact cause of his death would be established after further medical examination. No formal post-mortem findings had been released at the time of the report.
Doctors not associated with the case said the incident highlights the possibility of sudden cardiac events even among seemingly healthy and physically active people. They advised regular health check-ups, awareness of family history of heart disease and attention to warning signs such as unusual fatigue, breathlessness or chest discomfort during exercise.
