PIMS Fire Hero Nurse Razia Noorain to Receive Sitara-e-Khidmat and Rs1 Crore Reward for Saving Newborn

A courageous nurse has been recognised for risking her life to save a newborn during the devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.

CCTV footage from the incident shows staff nurse Razia Noorain attempting to rescue a newborn as flames spread through the neonatal ward. She continued her efforts despite the dangerous conditions and the rapidly spreading fire.

Her bravery has been formally acknowledged by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who approved the Sitara-e-Khidmat for Razia Noorain along with a Rs10 million cash reward in recognition of her courage and dedication to duty.

The PIMS fire claimed the lives of 14 newborns, turning the incident into one of the most tragic hospital fires in recent memory. While investigations into the incident and questions surrounding safety arrangements continue, Nurse Razia’s actions have been praised as an example of courage and humanity during an extremely difficult situation.

Her efforts have also drawn widespread appreciation on social media, where many people have described her as a symbol of professional dedication and compassion.
