At least 73 people were injured in a series of attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi-led coalition. The attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in several areas of the kingdom, marking a major escalation in regional tensions.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki said the strikes affected areas including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. Fires were also reported at several energy facilities, while operations at some sites were temporarily disrupted as emergency teams worked to control the situation.
The coalition described the attacks as a “dangerous escalation” and a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty. It said the strikes posed a direct threat to civilians and vowed to take all necessary measures to respond to the attacks and neutralise the sources of the threat.
The latest escalation comes amid renewed fighting in Yemen and growing tensions across the wider Middle East. The attacks have also raised concerns about their possible impact on regional energy supplies and global oil markets.
