Pakistan Car Sales Jump 79% in July Despite Monthly Decline

KARACHI: Sales of cars, pickups, vans and jeeps in Pakistan rose sharply by 79% year-on-year in July, reaching 19,818 units, according to industry data. However, sales declined by 13% compared with the previous month.

Analysts attributed the strong annual growth to the arrival of new companies in the local market, the launch of new vehicle models and variants, and increased availability of auto financing. The monthly decline, meanwhile, was linked mainly to uncertainty surrounding the country’s new auto policy.

Myesha Sohail of Topline Securities expects the positive trend in vehicle sales to continue during FY27. She said double-digit growth could be supported by the introduction of new variants and the entry of additional international brands into Pakistan’s automotive market.

In the below-1,000cc category, Suzuki Alto sales increased significantly to 7,217 units in July from 2,327 units in the same month last year. Suzuki Every sales also more than doubled, rising to 492 units from 230 units.

Sales of vehicles with engine capacities of 1,300cc and above increased by 111% year-on-year to 9,066 units in July. Suzuki Swift recorded the strongest growth in this category, with sales rising 287% to 2,018 units from 522 units a year earlier. Honda Civic and Honda City combined sales also increased by 121%, reaching 2,529 units compared with 1,143 units in July 2025.

In the 1,000cc segment, Suzuki Cultus sales rose 64% year-on-year to 392 units. Meanwhile, truck sales jumped 169% to 854 units, while bus sales increased 14% to 65 units during the month.

Farm tractor sales also recorded modest growth, increasing 4% to 1,242 units in July from 1,195 units in the same month last year. Two- and three-wheeler sales showed stronger growth, rising 38% year-on-year to 172,416 units.

Among major manufacturers, Atlas Honda sold 150,063 two-wheelers in July, marking a 43% year-on-year increase. Suzuki motorcycle sales rose 29% to 3,259 units from 2,518 units in July 2025.

Some vehicle models, however, recorded declines. Toyota Fortuner and Revo sales fell 12% year-on-year to 806 units, while Hyundai Tucson sales dropped to 171 units from 546 units a year earlier. Honda BR-V and HR-V sales stood at 111 units compared with 357 units in July 2025.

Sazgar’s Haval and Tank sales also declined 39% year-on-year to 663 units from 1,079 units. In contrast, JAC pickup sales increased 140% to 357 units from 149 units in July 2025.

Sazgar’s three-wheeler sales rose to 2,562 units in July from 1,415 units a year earlier, while United Auto Motorcycle sales increased 30% to 16,393 units from 12,605 units.

The data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) also highlights a changing pattern in consumer demand. During the first 11 months of FY26, buyers increasingly shifted from traditional internal combustion engine vehicles to hybrid and electric vehicles, contributing to a 47% increase in overall auto sales compared with the same period of FY25.
