Islamabad police have been provided with modern “net launchers” ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march planned for September 27. Authorities describe the equipment as a non-lethal tool intended to help officers restrain individuals during difficult law-and-order situations.
According to information released by authorities, the device can fire a specially designed mesh net at a targeted person, restricting their movement and allowing police officers to take them into custody. A video accompanying the announcement showed a police official demonstrating how the launcher works.
Police officials said the equipment may be used during the upcoming PTI march if protesters reach the capital, particularly in situations involving resistance to police action or damage to public property. Officials have described the launcher as a safer alternative to some conventional methods of restraining suspects.
The development comes as security preparations are being stepped up in Islamabad ahead of the planned September 27 demonstration. Authorities have also introduced other security measures in and around the capital as they prepare for the expected movement of protesters.
