HARIPUR: The funeral prayer of five-year-old Ayat Noor was offered at the Khad Factory ground in Haripur, with thousands of people attending to bid farewell to the child whose death has left the local community in deep grief.
Ayat Noor had gone missing after leaving her home to play, and her body was recovered around 15 days later from a well at a warehouse near University Road. Police said CCTV footage helped investigators identify five suspects allegedly linked to her disappearance. Three suspects have been arrested, while efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining two.
Police have alleged that the arrested suspects confessed before a magistrate to sexually assaulting the child and later disposing of her body. The allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and remain subject to the legal process.
Following the recovery of Ayat’s body, her family and local residents expressed anger and demanded justice. Her father, visibly devastated by the loss of his daughter, appealed to the authorities for justice and questioned what wrong his innocent child had done to suffer such a tragic fate.
The funeral brought together a large number of mourners, while the atmosphere in Haripur remained deeply sorrowful. Residents and members of civil society have called for those responsible to be held accountable and for the investigation to be completed fairly and swiftly.
Authorities have said the investigation is continuing, with police teams searching for the remaining suspects. The case has also prompted renewed calls for stronger measures to protect children and ensure that those found responsible face the law.
