The federal government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) in Pakistan, with the revised rates taking effect from Thursday, September 17, 2026. Petrol has become Rs6.88 per litre more expensive, while the price of HSD has increased by Rs5.62 per litre.
Under the latest revision, petrol will now be sold at Rs391.22 per litre, up from Rs384.34, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs421.45 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs415.83. The new rates were issued through a Petroleum Division notification.
The government continues to collect Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel. According to reports, the latest adjustment is linked primarily to changes in international petroleum prices and other factors used in the fuel-pricing formula.
Pakistan moved to a daily petroleum pricing mechanism in July 2026, replacing the previous weekly pricing system. The change was introduced amid fluctuations in international oil markets, with fuel prices now being reviewed more frequently in response to market conditions.
The latest increase comes after the government also raised petrol and HSD prices for September 16. With the new rates effective from September 17, consumers will face another increase in transportation and fuel costs.
