PML-N MPA Hina Parvez Butt has sparked an online debate after commenting on a viral video featuring renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel performing yoga exercises on camera.
The video shows the religious scholar doing light stretching and breathing exercises as part of a fitness routine. While many social media users appreciated the clip for promoting health and a healthy lifestyle, Hina Parvez Butt questioned whether such activities needed to be shared publicly.
In her social media post, Hina asked, “Was this necessary on camera?” Her comment suggested that public figures, particularly religious scholars, should remain mindful of how their actions are perceived by the public.
The remark received mixed reactions from social media users. Some agreed with Hina and felt that religious scholars should avoid combining wellness activities with their public religious image. However, many others defended Maulana Tariq Jameel, arguing that there is nothing wrong with promoting fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Supporters also pointed out that simple stretching and yoga exercises are not necessarily connected to religion and that religious scholars, like everyone else, have the right to focus on their physical health.
The discussion has since turned into a broader debate about the public image of religious scholars, the role of social media, and whether personal health and fitness activities should be shared with the public.
