Saudi Arabia Issues Red Weather Alerts as Heavy Rain and Flash Floods Threaten Regions

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has issued red weather alerts for several areas as moderate to heavy thunderstorms, flash floods, hail and strong winds are expected across parts of the Kingdom.

According to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), heavy thunderstorms are forecast in parts of Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, Makkah and Madinah. The weather conditions could lead to flash flooding, while strong winds may also cause dust and sand to rise and reduce visibility.

Red alerts for heavy rainfall have been issued for Taif, Al Kamil, Adham and surrounding areas in the Makkah region. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow official weather and safety instructions.

The NCM also warned that temperatures could rise to around 47°C in some parts of Saudi Arabia, highlighting the sharp contrast between extreme heat in some areas and severe thunderstorms in others.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as potentially dangerous weather conditions continue across parts of the country.
