Severe storms caused disruption across parts of Toronto, Canada, and Texas, USA, on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and large hail.
In Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, powerful thunderstorms brought damaging winds, hail and torrential rainfall. Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the city, warning of strong wind gusts, large hail and the possibility of localized flooding.
The storm also caused widespread power outages across Toronto. Toronto Hydro reported that nearly 65,000 customers were without electricity at the peak of the storm, while crews worked to restore service. Fallen trees and power lines were reported in several parts of the city, while some events and flights were also affected.
Meanwhile, severe weather also affected parts of Texas, where thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall, damaging winds and hail. The National Weather Service issued multiple severe thunderstorm warnings, including warnings for southeastern Texas, with wind gusts reaching around 60 mph and hail reported in affected areas.
Residents in affected areas were urged to remain indoors during the worst conditions, stay away from windows and follow official weather alerts. Authorities also warned motorists to use caution as heavy rain, fallen trees, flooding and reduced visibility created dangerous travel conditions.
