Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has spoken publicly about her harassment case involving PML-N Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar, questioning the handling of the investigation and saying she remains determined to pursue the matter.
Speaking after appearing before the court, Iqbal questioned why Chadhar had not been suspended while serious allegations against him were being investigated. She said that a public representative facing such allegations should not be in a position where political influence could potentially affect the process.
Momina also said she had placed her trust in the legal system but would not remain silent if she felt justice was not being served. She indicated that she could share evidence on social media if necessary and allow the public to judge the matter.
The case relates to allegations of cyber harassment, blackmail, threats and intimidation made by Iqbal. The NCCIA registered a case against Chadhar in June under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and the Pakistan Penal Code. Chadhar has denied the allegations.
The latest proceedings took a new turn after a new investigating officer told a Lahore court that Chadhar and his wife did not need to be arrested at this stage. Their interim pre-arrest bail petitions were subsequently withdrawn and disposed of by the court.
The NCCIA has now ordered a fresh inquiry after new digital evidence emerged. Both Momina Iqbal and Saqib Chadhar have been summoned, while a special investigation team has been formed to examine the new and previously available evidence. The agency has said it would be premature to declare either side guilty or innocent before the inquiry is completed.
