Trump Defends FIFA Chief Infantino, Warns Against His Removal

US President Donald Trump has voiced strong support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, warning that removing him from his position would be a “terrible mistake.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump praised Infantino and credited him with overseeing what he described as the most successful FIFA World Cup ever. Trump also said that if Infantino were removed, future tournaments would not achieve the same level of success or profitability.

Infantino has faced criticism following the collapse of plans to launch the FIFA Forward Enterprise last month. The proposed initiative aimed to sell a portion of the World Cup’s commercial rights to private investors in an effort to raise billions of dollars.

The proposal has also created tensions within regional football bodies. CONCACAF, the governing organisation for football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, has reportedly threatened to boycott FIFA tournaments unless it receives assurances that similar plans will not be proposed in the future.

The dispute comes as Infantino continues to face scrutiny over FIFA’s commercial strategy and the organisation’s plans for generating revenue from its biggest tournaments.
